Gluconeogenesis from glycerol and alanine in thyrotoxicosis.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Gluconeogenesis in thyrotoxicosis was studied by oral glycerol-loading test and alanine-loading test performed on 5 normal subjects and 5 cases of thyrotoxicosis. The blood glucose levels in thyrotoxicosis rose after the administration of glycerol deposit elevation of the plasma levels of insulin. After the administration of alanine, the levels of IRI, pyruvate and lactate elevated in thyrotoxicosis. In normal subjects, the plasma levels of glucose, IRI, pyruvate, or lactate did not change significantly after glycerol or alanine load.

Effect of methylamalonic acid on gluconeogenesis in isolated rat and guinea-pig hepatocytes.
Gluconeogenesis from pyruvate, alanine, lactate and propionate was inhibited by methylmalonate in both rat and guinea-pig hepatocytes. The effect was dose-dependent. Gluconeogenesis from glycerol and xylitol was not affected.
متن کاملGluconeogenesis in the isolated perfused rat kidney.
The perfused rat kidney was used for a study of gluconeogenesis. The kidney was completely isolated and perfused with Krebs-Henseleit bicarbonate buffer containing 5% albumin. Perfusion flow rate and pressure remained stable for 2 to 3 hours, although the glomerular filtration rate diminished with time. The fractional reabsorption of both water and sodium was 0.92 during the 1st hour of perfusi...
متن کاملRenal substrate exchange and gluconeogenesis in normal postabsorptive humans.
Release of glucose by the kidney in postabsorptive normal humans is generally regarded as being wholly due to gluconeogenesis. Although lactate is the most important systemic gluconeogenic precursor and there is appreciable net renal lactate uptake, renal lactate gluconeogenesis has not yet been investigated. The present studies were therefore undertaken to quantitate the contribution of lactat...
متن کاملContribution of glycerol and alanine to basal hepatic glucose production in the genetically obese (fa/fa) rat.
Increased hepatic glucose production has been reported to occur in the insulin-resistant genetically obese fa/fa rats. The possible existence of an increased basal gluconeogenesis in obese rats was investigated, upon comparing the metabolic fate of glycerol and alanine in liver of fed anaesthetized lean and genetically obese (fa/fa) rats. Glycerol turnover rate in obese animals was 3 times that...
متن کاملPhenethylbiguanide and the inhibition of hepatic gluconeogenesis in the guinea pig.
1. Phenethylbiguanide inhibits the synthesis of phosphoenolpyruvate from malate or 2-oxoglutarate by isolated guinea-pig liver mitochondria. This inhibition is time- and concentration-dependent, with the maximum decrease in the rate of phosphoenolpyruvate synthesis (80%) evident after 10min of incubation with 1mm-phenethylbiguanide. 2. The phosphorylation of ADP by these mitochondria is also in...
